Kindergarten Kamp is a five-week summer program in Lima which uses project-based teaching methods to cultivate children's learning and language skills, and prepare at-risk youth for school readiness and reading success.
Since the initiative first launched in 2009, Kamp participants have consistently scored higher on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment-Literacy (KRAL) than peers who have not participated in Kamp. Local educators note that the program strengthens parent engagement and instills in children a newfound enthusiasm for learning.
In 2010, Kindergartyen Kamp was recognized at a STATE LEVEL for its innovativeness when it was awarded a Best Practice Award by the Ohio State University's John Glenn Institute, the OACCA and the Ohio Department of Development.
